Argentina is actively promoting its role as a stable source of lithium, copper, and hydrocarbons to support India’s energy transition and industrial growth. Ambassador Mariano Agustín Caucino highlighted that Argentina offers a secure alternative to existing supply chains, which are currently heavily reliant on Chinese processing. As India pursues its electric vehicle objectives, the collaboration aims to reduce import dependencies. Bilateral trade has seen significant growth, with Indian state-owned firm KABIL already engaged in lithium exploration projects in the Catamarca province. Experts suggest that while these initial extraction efforts are vital, India should focus on deeper partnerships to develop value-added products like batteries. This strategic alignment reflects a mutual desire to diversify economic ties and secure essential resources for long-term development, moving beyond intermediate mineral exports to more integrated industrial cooperation.
