The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs in Bangladesh has granted preliminary approval for the acquisition of liquefied natural gas from five global providers. This initiative aims to secure the nation's energy stability and address urgent fuel requirements. During a virtual session chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, officials reviewed two primary proposals submitted by the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. The first plan involves evaluating supply offers from Cheniere Marketing International LLP and Trafigura Pte Ltd, utilizing the government-to-government procurement framework. These actions are being conducted in accordance with the Public Procurement Act of 2006 and updated regulations from 2025. The committee's decision reflects a strategic effort to maintain consistent gas availability through international partnerships.
