Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu, who resumed leadership of the Republican People’s Party (CHP) following a court-ordered nullification of the previous internal election, has suggested a possible coalition with the New Party (YP). The YP was established by his predecessor, Özgür Özel, after he departed from the CHP. Kılıçdaroğlu indicated a willingness to support YP figure Ekrem Imamoğlu for the presidency, provided he meets eligibility requirements. Imamoğlu currently faces significant legal challenges, including corruption allegations and the annulment of his university degree, which bars him from running for office. While Kılıçdaroğlu described the arrest of Imamoğlu as improper, he rejected the characterization of him as a political prisoner. The CHP leader emphasized that those accused of financial misconduct must face legal accountability, noting that his current administration is focused on purging corruption from within the party ranks.
