During the ongoing impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, the Philippine Statistics Authority revealed significant irregularities regarding the liquidation of confidential funds. Assistant National Statistician Marizza Grande testified that documentation submitted by the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education included the name of an infant who died in 1965. This individual was listed as a recipient for funds distributed between 2022 and 2023. Further verification by the PSA indicated that at least 37 people listed as payees were already deceased at the time the disbursements were recorded. Additionally, 25 other entries were identified as minors. These findings were presented as part of the scrutiny surrounding the expenditure of P612.5 million in confidential funds, raising serious questions about the validity of the liquidation receipts provided by the agencies involved.
