A Delhi court has ordered Swatantra Bhardwaj, a right-wing social media personality, into 14-day judicial custody following an assault investigation. The legal action stems from an incident in June at Jantar Mantar, where Bhardwaj allegedly attacked the father of a teenage activist during a protest organized by the Cockroach Janta Party. Authorities apprehended the suspect in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, last Friday. The police have since expanded the charges against him to include criminal intimidation and provisions under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The investigation was prompted by public backlash after a video surfaced in which Bhardwaj purportedly boasted about injuring the victim. While the accused maintains he acted in self-defense, he remains in custody and is also facing separate legal proceedings under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
