A 28-year-old taxi driver, Ramanujan Goswami, was taken into custody by Guwahati police following the discovery of his wife's remains in their rented home. Authorities found the victim, Riya Talukdar, had been decapitated, with her head and fingers stored inside a refrigerator. The investigation began after neighbors reported a foul smell coming from the locked residence. Police believe the murder occurred roughly 24 hours before the discovery. Goswami, who reportedly had a history of domestic violence and prior rehabilitation, initially fled the scene but later turned himself in at the Hatigaon police station. He is currently facing charges under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The victim's body has been transferred to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for a post-mortem examination as officials continue to investigate the motive behind the crime.
