Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac has directed a specialized team to provide comprehensive reintegration assistance to Mary Jane Veloso following her release from prison. After receiving an absolute pardon from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., Veloso concluded a 16-year incarceration period related to drug charges. The Department of Migrant Workers, in collaboration with the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, aims to establish community-level interventions in Nueva Ecija to support her long-term self-sufficiency. This program focuses on connecting Veloso with local cooperatives and economic opportunities to facilitate her transition back into civilian life. Veloso, who was previously on death row in Indonesia after being arrested in 2010, maintains she was a victim of exploitation. The government is now prioritizing the rebuilding of her life alongside her family through tailored support measures.
