Monica Andrea Martinich Cohn, a 38-year-old mother of two, died following a hit-and-run incident while training for her debut marathon. The tragedy occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on September 4 along the E40 highway near Guayaquil, Ecuador. Martinich was running with two companions in the rightmost lane of the road. Despite the early hour, the area was illuminated by LED streetlights, and the victim was wearing high-visibility gear, including a neon yellow shirt and a flashing red light. A vehicle struck the group, resulting in the death of the 38-year-old runner. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision as the driver fled the scene immediately after the impact.
