The Election Commission of India has disclosed to the Supreme Court that a significant backlog remains regarding appeals filed against voter list revisions in West Bengal. Out of approximately 3.82 million appeals submitted during the special intensive revision process, only 100,000 cases have been resolved since hearings commenced in April. This represents a disposal rate of just 2.6%. The Supreme Court had previously directed the poll body to submit a detailed affidavit following a petition from Congress leader Prasenjit Bose concerning voter list modifications. While the Commission provided figures on the total volume of pending cases, the submitted documentation lacked a specific breakdown regarding the nature of the appeals, such as those involving deleted voters versus challenges to new inclusions. The judicial oversight continues as the court monitors the integrity of the state's electoral rolls.
