Singapore's Speaker of Parliament, Seah Kian Peng, has issued a formal apology following an incident where he was observed dozing off while presiding over a parliamentary session on September 9. The event occurred shortly after Workers’ Party Member of Parliament Dennis Tan concluded his address regarding the Health Sciences Authority (Amendment) and Other Matters Bill. In a public statement shared on social media, Seah explained that he was experiencing health issues and had consumed medication prior to the sitting. He acknowledged that his behavior did not meet the expected professional standards and accepted full accountability for the lapse. Seah further noted that he should have requested a recess instead of attempting to proceed with the legislative business while feeling unwell. A staff member eventually alerted the Speaker to the situation during the proceedings.
