The Federal Constitutional Court of Pakistan has officially affirmed that its legal interpretations are mandatory for every court in the country, explicitly including the Supreme Court. This clarification was detailed in a 24-page ruling written by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi. The case originated from a dispute involving a PhD student at the International Islamic University Islamabad, whose request for a thesis submission extension was denied, a decision previously upheld by the Islamabad High Court. Justice Rizvi cited Article 189 of the Constitution, which mandates that legal principles established by the court must be followed by all other judicial institutions. Furthermore, the court emphasized its own obligation to ensure consistency and coherence within its past and future legal precedents to maintain judicial stability across the nation.
