A collective of retired civil servants, known as the Constitutional Conduct Group, has formally requested that the Election Commission of India abandon its special intensive revision of voter rolls. In an open letter, the group warned that continuing this exercise could jeopardize the integrity of universal adult suffrage and harm the credibility of the electoral body. This appeal follows recent media reports indicating that two election commissioners had previously expressed formal opposition to the revision process on multiple occasions. The situation has intensified calls from opposition parties and civil society organizations for the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner, citing concerns over potential irregularities in the management of recent elections. The former bureaucrats emphasized that the current approach risks undermining democratic principles and public trust in the electoral system.
