A new 720-meter pedestrian bridge connecting Bach Dang Wharf to the Thu Thiem peninsula in Ho Chi Minh City reached a major construction milestone on October 21. Featuring a design inspired by local nipa palm leaves, the structure includes a 187-meter central span supported by steel arches. Architects aimed to create a distinct landmark that differentiates the city from other regional hubs like Bangkok or Singapore. The project, funded by NutiFood with an investment of nearly VND1 trillion, prioritizes pedestrian comfort, including sun protection and integrated lighting for evening use. The design also ensures safe navigation for river vessels by minimizing riverbed piers. Construction began in early 2025, and the bridge is scheduled to open to the public during the 2027 Lunar New Year holiday.
