Violent clashes erupted in Pasighat, Arunachal Pradesh, on Friday as demonstrators opposed to a massive hydroelectric project targeted state infrastructure. Protesters set fire to vehicles and damaged an office belonging to the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation, alongside a local police station. The unrest began after security forces deployed tear gas against a crowd demanding the release of ten individuals detained earlier. The proposed 12,500-megawatt dam on the Siang River has faced significant local opposition, leading to ongoing protests by various organizations. While the structures themselves were not completely destroyed, the premises suffered considerable damage from arson and stone-pelting. Authorities confirmed that the situation escalated rapidly following the police intervention against the gathered demonstrators.
