Representatives from the Asian Migrants Coordinating Body gathered outside the Labour Department on Friday to advocate for a 21 percent rise in the minimum wage for domestic workers. The proposal seeks to adjust the current monthly pay from HK$5,100 to HK$6,172. Additionally, the group requested that the mandatory food allowance be raised from HK$1,236 to HK$3,123 per month. Spokesperson Sringatin stated that these adjustments are necessary to combat persistent inflation in the city and to ensure that workers can maintain a reasonable standard of living. The organization explicitly rejected suggestions from some quarters to maintain the existing pay levels, emphasizing that current compensation is insufficient to meet the rising costs of daily necessities in Hong Kong.
