Data collected over two decades indicates that influenza has emerged as a significant public health issue within Bangladesh. Research findings reveal that 13 percent of hospital admissions involving severe acute respiratory infections, fever, or coughing are linked to influenza viruses. Furthermore, experts have expressed concern regarding the prevalence of avian influenza in the nation. Since 2007, the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research and the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh, have tracked these health trends with assistance from the World Health Organization and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. These findings were recently shared by scientists during a seminar held at the IEDCR facility to discuss the ongoing monitoring of viral respiratory diseases.
