Iran has officially expanded the use of the Russian ruble to facilitate commercial transactions with Belarus and Armenia, in addition to its existing trade arrangements with Russia. According to Kambiz Mirkarimi, a member of the Iran Chamber of Commerce, financial settlements using the ruble are now technically feasible and currently operational with these Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) partners. Mirkarimi noted that merchants have largely accepted this currency for trade activities, and banking mechanisms for transfers and credit openings are functioning without significant technical obstacles. However, he cautioned that the stability of Iran's dual-rate currency system remains a concern for economic participants. He warned that a widening gap between official and market exchange rates could discourage the use of formal banking channels, potentially pushing traders toward riskier financial alternatives that could negatively impact the national economy.
