Israel's Defence Minister, Israel Katz, has directed the nation's military to ready itself for a comprehensive conflict targeting the Palestinian Authority. This directive is contingent on the assessment that the internationally recognized organization might initiate a terror attack akin to the October 7 incident against Israeli forces and settlements. Katz indicated that such an engagement could involve high-ranking officials and various bodies affiliated with the Authority. He also suggested that this could lead to the forced relocation of residents from entire urban areas within the occupied West Bank, mirroring previous operations in Gaza and southern Lebanon where extensive destruction occurred. This statement represents a significant intensification of the ultranationalist Israeli government's strong language concerning the Palestinian Authority, which, according to the Oslo Accords, is responsible for administering certain West Bank territories pending the formation of a Palestinian state.
