The Parliamentary Caucus for Open Parliament Initiative recently finished the initial stage of its Voice to Policy Dialogue program in Kandy. This event facilitated a direct exchange between approximately 40 young residents and eight Members of Parliament. The discussion covered various critical topics, including the mismatch between academic training and job market requirements, entrepreneurship, women’s rights, and local economic development. MP Shanakiyan Rasamanickam, co-chair of the caucus, emphasized the necessity of integrating youth perspectives into the legislative process consistently, rather than limiting their involvement to election periods. By providing this platform, the initiative aims to ensure that the concerns of the younger generation actively influence the formulation of national government policies moving forward.
