The national team faced a complex dilemma as two different athletes held world titles from separate organizations: the experienced Zhussupov, who secured an IBA tournament victory, and the rising talent Torekhan Sabyrkhan, who triumphed under the World Boxing banner. Ultimately, the coaching staff opted to select Sabyrkhan for the competition. Federation officials have addressed the controversy by stating that the final roster decisions were made exclusively by the head coaches of the men's and women's teams, denying any external influence or pressure in the selection process.
