A recent study by the Khazanah Research Institute indicates that Malaysian citizens generally report high levels of happiness as national wages have surpassed pre-pandemic figures. By 2024, the median monthly household income climbed to RM7,017, supported by a labor force participation rate of 70.6 percent. Notably, Putrajaya experienced significant wage expansion over the last decade. Despite these positive indicators, the report highlights a growing disparity, as lower-income families face mounting pressure from escalating living expenses. Data shows that 46.2 percent of households reside in districts where the median income remains below the national average. Furthermore, a majority of Malaysia's districts continue to struggle with poverty levels exceeding the national benchmark of 5.1 percent, suggesting that economic recovery has not been uniform across all regions.
