LG Energy Solution has collaborated with a research team at Seoul National University to enhance the performance of lithium manganese-rich (LMR) batteries. Led by Professor Lim Jong-woo, the joint study successfully created a method to minimize gas production, which significantly extends the operational cycle life of these power cells. These technical findings were recently featured in the journal Nature Communications. LMR batteries are considered a cost-effective alternative to traditional options, as they utilize abundant manganese rather than expensive cobalt for their cathode components. This development represents a notable step in improving the efficiency and economic viability of battery technology for future energy storage applications.
