Meta has successfully dismantled over 3.6 million fraudulent "shell pages" on Facebook and Instagram during the month of July. These accounts, identified through intelligence provided by the Singapore Police Force, were designed to appear benign by avoiding traditional advertising or policy violations. However, they functioned as dormant infrastructure that cybercriminals could activate instantly for large-scale scam operations. This initiative is the result of a two-year partnership between Meta and Singaporean authorities aimed at the proactive detection and removal of malicious online content. By leveraging specific tip-offs from local law enforcement, Meta investigators were able to neutralize these accounts before they could be utilized for illicit activities. The company continues to work on disrupting these emerging scam vectors to enhance platform security.
