Zeynel Emre, a spokesperson for Turkey's main opposition party, has accused former Family Minister Fatma Betül Sayan Kaya and her spouse of suspicious financial activity. During an Istanbul party meeting, Emre claimed the couple generated significant profits by offloading shares in the shipbuilding firm Özata Denizcilik shortly before a major investment fund crisis impacted the stock market on September 16. According to the allegations, the former minister purchased shares for 63.4 million lira in April and sold them for 1.34 billion lira in September. Her husband, İlyas Kaya, reportedly saw his 99.7 million lira investment grow to 826 million lira. Emre suggested that the timing of these transactions implies the couple may have possessed insider information regarding the impending market instability. The former minister has not yet publicly addressed these specific claims regarding her financial dealings.
