Pakistan Railways has announced that construction on the long-awaited ML-1 project is scheduled to commence within the current calendar year. During a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Railways, officials confirmed that 25 billion rupees have been earmarked for this initiative from a total allocation of 40 billion rupees. The Railway Board secretary stated that the department aims to finalize the project within a three-year timeframe, marking a significant milestone for the organization. Despite this progress, the department continues to navigate substantial financial limitations. Officials noted that while they requested 180 billion rupees from the federal government in the previous fiscal year, only 40 billion rupees were granted. Due to these budgetary restrictions, the railway authority has been forced to prioritize specific projects based on the limited funds currently available to them.
