The Panama Canal Authority has initiated a reduction in the daily number of vessels permitted to transit the waterway. This operational adjustment, which commenced on Friday, September 4, is a direct response to severe drought conditions in the region. The lack of rainfall has been attributed to the El Nino weather pattern, which has significantly lowered water levels required for the canal's optimal functioning. Consequently, maritime traffic through this crucial global trade route is being restricted to manage the limited water resources.
