Vince Dizon, the Secretary of Public Works and Highways, has announced a policy shift regarding flood mitigation in Bulacan. For years, the department relied on engineering projects like concrete dikes and sheet piles. However, Dizon emphasized that these traditional methods are insufficient on their own. He suggests that future planning must incorporate nature-based strategies to better protect communities from environmental hazards. By utilizing the natural landscape's inherent protective qualities, the government aims to create more sustainable and effective defenses against chronic flooding in the region, moving beyond a purely infrastructure-focused approach.
