A large group of Pune citizens marched to the municipal corporation headquarters on Sunday to call for a prohibition on high-volume sound systems and DJs during religious celebrations. This demonstration, coordinated by the Loudspeaker-Virodhi Punekar Manch, marks the third such event within a single week. The public outcry follows a violent incident on Friday involving activist Vidyanand Bapat, who was attacked while discussing noise pollution during a television interview. Bapat has been a vocal advocate for regulating sound equipment, particularly ahead of the upcoming Ganeshotsav festival. Authorities have since arrested the individual responsible for the assault and filed a formal police report. Despite the recent escalation in tensions, Bapat was not present at the Sunday march.
