An oxygen generation facility established at Rukum East Hospital during the COVID-19 pandemic has failed to function for five years. Despite a government investment of approximately 7.2 million rupees, the plant remains non-operational, forcing the medical facility to procure oxygen cylinders from distant locations such as Pokhara and Bhairahawa. The project, funded by the Ministry of Health and Population with a 7.5 million rupee allocation in the 2021/22 fiscal year, was originally designed to produce enough oxygen to fill over 30 cylinders. The persistent inactivity of this equipment has prompted concerns regarding the effectiveness of public spending and the hospital's ability to maintain essential medical supplies for its patients.
