The Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe has reiterated its call for the Turkish authorities to secure the prompt release of Selahattin Demirtaş and Figen Yüksekdağ Şenoğlu. During a recent human rights assembly in Strasbourg, the committee emphasized that Turkey must comply with mandatory rulings issued by the European Court of Human Rights. Officials suggested that the government utilize existing legal frameworks, specifically the Law on Strengthening National Solidarity and Social Integration, to facilitate the liberation of the former Peoples’ Democratic Party leaders. Ankara has been requested to provide clarification regarding the potential application of this legislation to the individuals involved in the Demirtaş case files. This intervention underscores ongoing international pressure on Turkey to address the detention of these prominent opposition figures.
