Russia's Central Election Commission has officially removed Nikolai Bondarenko, a prominent Communist Party candidate, from the ballot for the upcoming State Duma elections. This decision follows a recent court ruling that found Bondarenko guilty of displaying extremist symbols, specifically related to a social media post featuring Alexei Navalny. Under current Russian electoral regulations, individuals convicted of extremism are ineligible to seek public office for a period of one year. Bondarenko, a former Saratov regional lawmaker and influential YouTuber, maintains that the account in question was not his. The Communist Party has characterized the disqualification as a politically motivated move driven by official apprehension regarding his popularity. This incident is part of a broader trend of potential candidates being excluded from the electoral process due to similar legal challenges.
