Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu recently announced that Singapore has issued preventive measure notices to seven Indonesian companies under the Transboundary Haze Pollution Act. This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of transboundary haze on the local population. Notably, three of the identified firms—PT Bumi Andalas Permai, PT Bumi Mekar Hijau, and PT SBA Wood Industries—had previously received similar notices back in 2015. The National Environment Agency confirmed that investigations regarding these entities remain active. While acknowledging the significant challenges involved in enforcing regulations across borders, Minister Fu emphasized the government's commitment to protecting public health. The move follows recent reports linking various palm oil businesses to regional air quality issues, highlighting the ongoing efforts by Singaporean authorities to address the recurring environmental problem.
