Diplomatic representatives from France, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, and Iceland have formally expressed concern regarding recent Turkish government actions targeting LGBTQ organizations and human rights advocates. Since mid-September, authorities have detained at least 82 individuals, prompting international alarm over the erosion of fundamental freedoms. The envoys emphasized that Turkey remains obligated to uphold the European Convention on Human Rights, specifically regarding the rights to peaceful assembly and free expression. Human Rights Watch has characterized this campaign as the most significant offensive against the LGBTQ community in Turkey in recent years, alleging that officials are attempting to discredit advocacy groups by associating them with criminal activity. The European coalition has reaffirmed its support for those affected by these measures, calling for an immediate adherence to international human rights standards.
