Transport Minister Anthony Loke has confirmed that taxi drivers in Melaka are set to receive a one-off payment of RM1,000 this coming Monday. The initiative is financed by the federal government using revenue generated from the auction of special "H" series vehicle registration plates, which successfully accumulated RM91 million. Loke, who serves as the DAP secretary-general, revealed the plan during a Pakatan Harapan event in Melaka. He emphasized that this distribution reflects the government's ongoing commitment to utilizing public funds for the direct benefit of citizens. By repurposing earnings from vehicle plate sales, the administration aims to provide tangible financial support to transport workers, highlighting a strategy to return state-generated income to the public sector.
