The Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mineral Research Agency (TENMAK) has entered into a formal partnership with the Danish company Copenhagen Atomics. This memorandum of understanding aims to establish local production capabilities for thorium compounds suitable for next-generation nuclear reactors. The initiative specifically targets the development of fuel materials compatible with molten salt reactor technology, which utilizes liquid salts for heat transfer and fuel transport. By leveraging its significant thorium reserves located in regions such as Eskişehir and Malatya, Turkey intends to overcome existing technical barriers to resource exploitation. Through this strategic cooperation, the government aspires to transform the nation into a global provider of nuclear fuel components, thereby enhancing its energy independence and industrial capacity in the nuclear sector.
