Dr. Anwar Gargash, diplomatic adviser to President Sheikh Mohamed, stated on Monday that restoring trust with Iran would be a significant challenge, even if diplomatic relations were re-established. Speaking at the Hili Forum in Abu Dhabi, he noted that while formal ties could be resumed relatively quickly, genuine trust would be much harder to regain. Gargash highlighted that Iran's aggressive actions against Gulf nations over the past six months constituted a serious strategic error, damaging its regional relationships and increasing its isolation. He suggested a path forward involves establishing a lasting principle of non-belligerence and mutual respect between Iran and its neighbors, which could unlock substantial economic benefits for the Gulf region.
