The United National Party (UNP) has formally communicated its support for the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) regarding their scheduled public gathering in Anuradhapura. In a correspondence sent to SLPP General Secretary Sagara Kariyawasam, UNP Chairman Vajira Abeywardena acknowledged that the event is being coordinated by SLPP National Organiser Namal Rajapaksa. Abeywardena further suggested that the recent detention of Namal Rajapaksa was a deliberate attempt to interfere with the organization of this specific rally. Despite these circumstances, the UNP expressed its positive sentiments toward the event, which is set to take place under the guidance of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
