The Iraqi Foreign Ministry announced that the United States has officially signed an agreement to transfer its diplomatic and logistics hub located at Baghdad International Airport to the Iraqi government. This handover, formalized by US charge d’affaires Steven Fagin and Iraqi Deputy Foreign Minister Mohammed Hussein Bahr Al Uloom, represents a significant step in the ongoing process to conclude the American military presence in the country. The transition occurs shortly before the scheduled September 30 deadline for the withdrawal of the remaining US-led coalition forces. Following this transfer, the coalition's military footprint will be restricted solely to the airport in Erbil. Iraqi officials described the agreement as a key development in establishing a new framework for bilateral cooperation between the two nations as the coalition mission nears its formal end.
