Yemen’s National Resistance Forces have reported finding the remains of Somali Al Shabab militants alongside Houthi fighters on the country's western coastline. Military officials stated that identification was confirmed through personal items and documentation recovered from the deceased. This discovery highlights growing operational links between the Houthi movement and extremist factions based in the Horn of Africa. Recent research from the Century Foundation supports these findings, noting that the Houthis have established extensive smuggling and training infrastructure reaching across the Red Sea. These networks facilitate deeper cooperation with Al Shabab, an organization associated with Al Qaeda, as well as groups in Sudan. This development underscores the expanding regional influence of the Iran-backed Houthi militia and their strategic efforts to forge alliances with armed groups beyond Yemeni borders.
