Chinese tennis player Zheng Qinwen has advanced to the US Open quarter-finals after a challenging period in her professional career. Following a successful run that included an Olympic gold medal and a top-10 ranking, Zheng faced significant setbacks due to a persistent elbow injury that required surgery. Her performance suffered throughout the 2026 season, leading to a drop in the world rankings to 121st and necessitating her participation in the qualifying rounds for the current tournament. Despite these difficulties, she managed to defeat high-profile opponents such as Madison Keys and Iga Swiatek. Zheng acknowledged the psychological challenge of returning to competition after previously competing at the highest levels of the sport.
