The Allahabad High Court has invalidated the preventive detention of Akriti Chaudhary, a 25-year-old activist held under the National Security Act following a labor demonstration in Noida. The court strongly rebuked District Magistrate Medha Roopam, describing her actions as deserving of mockery and accusing her of failing to uphold her official oath. Chaudhary, a Delhi University graduate, had been incarcerated for approximately five months after being arrested in April. Although the court overturned the specific detention order under the National Security Act, which permits extended imprisonment without trial, Chaudhary continues to be held in custody. Her ongoing detention is due to multiple pending first information reports filed against her regarding the same protest. The police had previously alleged that she and another individual, 60-year-old Satya Verma, were involved in the disturbances.
