A marketing staff member at Bee Cheng Hiang inadvertently exposed the email addresses of 95,364 customers while utilizing an artificial intelligence tool for a mass email campaign. The incident occurred on April 25 when the software sent messages in batches of 1,000, causing each recipient to see the addresses of others within their group in the 'To' field. The company reported the breach to the Personal Data Protection Commission (PDPC) two days later. This event marks the first instance of an AI-related data leak reported to the Singaporean commission. Following an investigation, the PDPC accepted a voluntary undertaking from the company on September 2, requiring Bee Cheng Hiang to enhance its data protection protocols and ensure future compliance with regulatory standards.
