Senior Iranian naval officials recently highlighted the strategic necessity of maritime capabilities in supporting national interests and economic stability. During World Maritime Day, Rear Admiral Shahram Irani and Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari stressed that Iran’s naval power is vital for protecting shipping lanes and ensuring regional security. Irani noted that domestic defense capacities are designed to deter regional instability rather than pose a threat to other nations. Meanwhile, Sayyari focused on the economic significance of the maritime sector, advocating for fleet modernization, infrastructure development, and the cultivation of specialized human resources to bolster the nation's blue economy. Both commanders emphasized that relying on indigenous knowledge and technology is essential for maintaining a secure and effective presence in the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman, ultimately linking maritime security to the broader resilience of Iran's trade and supply chain networks.
