The Maharashtra government has announced that Aadhaar authentication will be compulsory for registering immovable property documents beginning October 1. This regulation encompasses 63 distinct types of registrations, such as sales, purchases, mortgages, and partition deeds. Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule stated that this initiative, directed by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, aims to enhance transparency and eliminate fraudulent activities like impersonation and the use of fake witnesses. While Aadhaar is now required, individuals lacking the identification number may submit proof of application alongside other government-issued documents for verification. Special provisions have been established for minors and other eligible categories to ensure they are not denied registration services. By reducing human intervention, the state government intends to secure property transactions and improve the overall efficiency of the Registration and Stamps Department.
