A spokesperson for China's Taiwan Affairs Office, Chen Binhua, has issued a stern warning to Taipei, stating that Taiwan must face the repercussions of using a water cannon against a Chinese fishing vessel. The incident occurred recently near the Pratas Islands, a territory controlled by Taiwan. According to the Taiwanese Coast Guard, the vessel was targeted after ignoring multiple orders to vacate restricted maritime zones. Following the deployment of the water cannon, the fishing boat experienced mechanical issues and was subsequently retrieved by another Chinese ship. Beijing maintains that it holds absolute sovereignty over the Pratas region and its adjacent waters, asserting that the presence of Chinese vessels in the area is both lawful and appropriate. This event highlights the ongoing maritime tensions between the two sides in the South China Sea.
