The United States embassy in Fiji has disclosed that hackers associated with China successfully breached the network of a regional organization based in Suva. This unauthorized access reportedly occurred between July and August. Officials warned that these cyber activities are part of a broader campaign targeting government infrastructure and telecommunications networks throughout the Pacific region. Fiji has recently become a critical hub for international digital connectivity, particularly with the development of subsea cable projects involving Google that link the United States, Australia, and various Pacific territories. In response to the embassy's announcement, Fiji's Minister for Home Affairs and Immigration, Ioane Naivalurua, confirmed that his office is currently conducting a formal review of the security incident to assess the extent of the compromise.
