Following the Thai Ministry of Culture's presentation of archival evidence suggesting these images were captured in Thailand over a century ago, the writer Tesh Chanthorn urged citizens of both nations to move past competitive historical narratives. While acknowledging the ancient roots of the Khmer Empire, Chanthorn cautioned against using historical timelines to fuel modern nationalistic disputes. He emphasized that the development of modern nation-states is a complex, gradual process, and suggested that comparing the relative ages of Thailand and Cambodia as modern entities is counterproductive.
