The Nepalese government has officially decided against forming a separate entity to manage the reconstruction of infrastructure impacted by the recent Rasuwa-Bhotekoshi floods. Infrastructure Development Minister Sunil Lamsal announced during a House of Representatives committee meeting that the administration intends to bolster the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority instead. Legal reforms are currently being drafted to empower this existing agency, with a formal bill expected to be presented to parliament shortly. Minister Lamsal estimated that the total cost for rebuilding damaged infrastructure will reach approximately Rs 100 billion. To finance these urgent recovery efforts, the government plans to initiate the process by reallocating existing budgetary resources.
