The Chinese Foreign Ministry has reiterated its demand for Japan to complete the disposal of chemical weapons left behind during the wartime invasion. This statement followed a recent inspection by the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) and representatives from twelve nations. The delegation visited China between August 31 and September 5 to evaluate the current status of destruction facilities. Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that these discarded munitions remain a significant threat to both the local population and the natural environment. Beijing continues to press Tokyo to honor its international commitments regarding the removal of these hazardous materials, noting that the ongoing presence of such weaponry serves as a persistent reminder of the damage inflicted during the conflict.
