Justice Rohantha Abeysuriya, the President of the Court of Appeal, has stepped down from the panel reviewing legal challenges against the prison administration's directive. The petitions contest the requirement for Ven. Galagoda Aththe Gnanasara Thera to wear standard prison clothing while serving his sentence. This legal dispute follows the Supreme Court's decision in September to revoke a presidential pardon previously issued by Maithripala Sirisena in 2019. Consequently, the monk was ordered to complete the remaining duration of his contempt of court sentence. Following Justice Abeysuriya's recusal, a new three-judge bench has been established to evaluate the ongoing petitions regarding the monk's attire and the enforcement of his incarceration.
